Peña Blanca Guided Hike

Come join a BLM archaeologist for a hike to Peña Blanca in the Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks National Monument! Attendees will learn about the prehistory of the Peña Blanca area and the importance of Leave No Trace at archaeological sites. Leading the hike will be BLM Archaeologist Garrett Leitermann.
This is a moderate 3 mile hike. For part of the way, it will follow an old dirt road. It will involve a small portion of hiking on rocky talus slopes with loose sediment and treads through areas with low density desert shrub. Road access to the designated parking area is on a dirt road. Attendees should bring adequate water and dress appropriately for a rugged hike.
Due to the fragile nature of the Peña Blanca landscape and limited parking, attendance is capped. ***Prospective attendees are required to RSVP for this hike in order to attend. To RSVP, please call Garrett Leitermann at 575-525-4313. There are no fees or costs for attending this hike. Directions to the parking area will be give upon RSVP acceptance.
